About Richard McCranie
Richard earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and history from The University of Georgia in 2004 and later completed a Master of Science in Clinical/Counseling Psychology at Valdosta State University. Early in his career he served as a Primary Therapist at The Marcus Institute working with individuals on the autism spectrum and other behavioral health concerns, and he later supervised case managers in New York City with Partnership of Innovative Comprehensive Care, Inc.
After returning to South Georgia, Richard gained experience in intake and admission roles at Crescent Pines/Anchor Hospital and the DeKalb Community Service Board before moving into clinical therapy positions that included residential and outpatient care. He has held roles such as Medication Assisted Treatment coordinator, residential manager supervisor, and director of clinical services overseeing clinical and residential programs. In 2023 he launched a private practice where he continues to provide care for individuals facing addictive, behavioral, and mental health challenges. Richard is committed to using his training and experience to support clients in building clearer, more manageable lives, while acknowledging that therapy outcomes depend on many factors beyond any single clinician's control.

Therapeutic Approaches for Online Care
Client-Centered Therapy focuses on creating a respectful, nonjudgmental space where the therapist listens closely and helps clients explore their own values and goals. This approach is often helpful for people dealing with grief, life transitions, relationship concerns, and questions about identity.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a practical, skills-based approach that helps clients identify unhelpful thinking patterns and develop new strategies for coping with stress, anxiety, and addictive behaviors. It emphasizes concrete tools and homework to support change between sessions.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) offers techniques for managing intense emotions, reducing impulsivity, and improving interpersonal effectiveness, which can be useful for individuals struggling with shame, impulsivity, or relationship difficulties. Therapists use DBT skills to help clients build emotional regulation and distress tolerance.
Finding the right approach is part of the therapeutic process. Richard will collaborate with each client to determine which methods fit their needs, goals, and preferences, adjusting the plan as progress is made and priorities change.
Online therapy with licensed professionals offers flexible options such as video calls, phone sessions, live chat, and text-based messaging. These formats make it easier to fit sessions into a busy schedule, access care from different locations, and maintain continuity of support during life transitions, while allowing therapists to tailor the pace and tools to each client's circumstances.
