About Kellie Kiernan
Kiernan provides scheduled chat messaging sessions only and does not offer video or phone appointments. She works exclusively with residents of Ohio - clients must be physically located in Ohio for each session. She is not currently accepting new clients.
Her primary areas of focus include anxiety, anger management and emotion regulation, depression (excluding severe treatment-resistant cases), stress management and mindfulness, trauma, grief and bereavement, self-esteem and confidence, assertive communication, boundary development, and social anxiety. Her practice hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Messages sent outside a scheduled appointment are typically answered within 24 to 48 hours.
The first meeting is an initial consultation and assessment of the concerns that bring a person to therapy; from that session she and the client determine whether her expertise is a good match. Kiernan uses an eclectic approach that integrates cognitive behavioral strategies, existential and emotionally focused methods, Jungian and Adlerian ideas, Gestalt and psychodynamic perspectives, solution-focused work, and art therapy techniques when appropriate.
She does not provide treatment for certain conditions, including severe treatment-resistant depression or anxiety, bipolar disorders, substance use disorders, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, OCD, schizophrenia or psychosis, eating disorders, phobias, borderline or narcissistic personality disorders, gender dysphoria, sexual disorders, marriage and family therapy, or issues that require specialized licensure such as chemical dependency counseling or sex therapy. Additional practice notes: sessions may be canceled if a client is more than seven minutes late; clinicians do not provide clinical notes, legal or disability documents, diagnoses for forms, or related paperwork; and clients should be in a private, quiet space and not driving or traveling during a session.

Approach-Focused Online Care and Messaging Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) encourages awareness of difficult thoughts and feelings while guiding clients to take values-driven actions; it is often used for anxiety, avoidance, and life transitions. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps identify and change unhelpful thought and behavior patterns to reduce symptoms such as low mood, worry, and stress. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) emphasizes emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness skills, which can be helpful for managing intense emotions and improving relationship patterns.
Finding the right approach is a collaborative process. Kellie works with each person to assess needs, goals, and preferences and blends methods to create a tailored plan rather than relying on a single technique. This collaborative stance helps determine which strategies will be most useful over time.
Online therapy offers practical flexibility - video calls and phone sessions allow real-time conversation, while live chat and text-based messaging provide options for shorter, more frequent check-ins or for clients who prefer written communication. Many clients find that messaging makes it easier to fit therapy into daily life and to reflect on material in writing. While therapists and licensed professionals may offer a range of modalities, Kellie specifically provides scheduled chat messaging sessions to support clients who prefer text-based care.
